Written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka, the Grand Blue manga series began serialization back in 2014. A few years later, animation studio Zero-G decided to make an anime adaptation of the story. The 12-episode anime debuted in July 2018 and continued until September of the same year. Since then, fans of the franchise have been demanding a second round for the hilarious ride.

Studio Zero-G has been avoiding questions related to the return of the comedy anime. However, sources say that there’s still hope for the sequel.

Grand Blue Live-Action Film Delayed Due To Coronavirus!
A while ago, it was confirmed that a live-action film adaptation of Grand Blue was in the making. Directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, the movie was originally scheduled to hit the theatres on May 29, 2020. However, according to recent reports, its official release has been postponed due to the Coronavirus outbreak. As of now, the live-action film is supposed to premiere on August 7, 2020.
Due to the film’s delay, fans are afraid that the COVID-19 outbreak can affect the release of Grand Blue Season 2 as well. Practically, the anime sequel is likely to face some issues in the schedule. Studio Zero-G might avoid beginning production during the pandemic. Even if they start the productions by the end of this year, the anime may not return for the next few years.
Is there enough source material for Grand Blue Season 2?
The anime adaptation of Grand Blue picks up the plot from the first five manga volumes. As of today, fifteen volumes of the manga have been serialized. This leaves more than enough source material to cover in Grand Blue Season 2 and a third season as well. Hence, the story of the upcoming season will be based on Volume 6 to 10 of the manga series.
Fans will get to watch the guys get into the Oumi Women’s University school this season. The girl’s school will be holding a festival that will feature a special voice actress concert. Although getting there will not be as easy as it sounds. As there are only limited tickets available, the guys will have to compete to get their hands on the tickets.
On the other hand, we’ll be introduced to some new characters in Grand Blue Season 2. Iori’s little sister Shiori Kitahara will arrive to create havoc in her brother’s life. Moreover, Kanako Iida’s sister Kaya Mizuki will have some effects on otaku Kohei Imamura. Well, to fan’s relief, the relationship between Iori and Chisa will also improve. Whereas, the story will take an exciting turn when the group travels to an uninhabited island for a camping trip.
Grand Blue Season 2: Release Date
Well, Studio Zero-G has not confirmed the return of Grand Blue Season 2 yet. However, the studio might begin production as soon as they announce the renewal.
