A Quick Recap!
The previous episode finally hinted that the Lagina brothers and their team would focus on science and its technology for the first time. Since the beginning of the show, they relied on archaeologists and archaeology. But not in this season. They would use XRD (X-Ray Diffraction) and XRF (X-Ray Fluorescence) to analyze the artifacts. The season opened with a quick rundown of the crucial areas of investigation. The Lagina brothers revealed they would use Muom Technology, a groundbreaking system to map the undersurface of the island. But before that, they needed to gather artifacts from Lot 8 and study the swamp area. Last year, Dr. Ian Spooner was tasked to collect underground water samples to keep the traces of gold and silver.
The geologist started this season by taking some samples that helped them determine where to dig for the treasure. Marty wanted him to do this as immediately as possible. Ian was super interested in the Garden shaft area, which they discovered in 2017. But they eventually abandoned it, and now Ian believed there could be a treasure. In the night, Charles Barkhouse and Terry Mattheson dug a 5-foot wide tunnel in the Money Pit area. The team then stuck a camera down the drill shaft and learned about a broken timber channel. Later with the help of sonar imaging, they mapped the tunnel.
