It follows the story of a group of nurse midwives working in London in the late 1950s and 1960s. The premiere episode came out on January 15, 2012. Ever since then, BBC One has released a total of ten installments, and every single one of them received a great response from the viewers as well as the critics.
Call The Midwife Season 11: Renewal & Production Status
Call The Midwife fans, rejoice. The eleventh season of this period drama is yet to hit the screens, and the network has already renewed the show for the twelfth and thirteenth seasons. So now, the fans can rest assured that they will be able to see the midwives of the Nonnatus House till 2024.
All of them will consist of eight one-hour-long episodes and will have an additional Christmas special episode. Currently, the cast and crew of the show are busy in the production of Call The Midwife Season 11. Last year, it was delayed a little due to the coronavirus pandemic, but this year everything is going smoothly according to the schedule.
What Will Happen Next?
The tenth installment of this period drama took place in 1966. So, the chances are great that the next one will feature the late 60’s when the women began to get autonomy over their bodies after the invention of the contraceptive pills. Further, the writer of the series, Thomas Heide, revealed that she wants to create some female characters who would enjoy their bodies and have fun with their sexuality.
Earlier this year, Thomas talked with the press about the plot of Call The Midwife Season 11. Her statement reads, “What I like to consider as we go ahead in time is that females will start enjoying their bodies, which is something we have not noticed them do yet. So I’m looking forward to the part of the 1960s where women really begin to have some fun. Then we are working to break out of the doll’s house, and our bodies won’t have been an irrational object that has to be controlled and dominated but something that can be admired and celebrated.”
Call The Midwife Season 11: Release Date
The upcoming season will continue the tradition and kick off with its special episode on Christmas this year. So, BBC One will likely release Call The Midwife Season 11 in the same time period again. Therefore, fans can expect to see its premiere episode in January 2022.
