Gangsta Season 2: Anime Finally Canceled? Everything The Fans Should Know!

The fans have been waiting for five years, but still, they haven’t got any updates on anime Gangsta Season 2. Now the fans of this anime series are getting desperate to see further installments of this show. When this debuted, it caught a lot of attention from the otakus because of its catchy name. And it didn’t disappoint its viewers. So will the fans ever see the second season of this anime? Keep reading to know.

Gangsta is a Japanese crime anime series. It is an adaptation of the manga of the same title by Kohske. The anime series made its debut on July 1, 2015, and ran for twelve episodes. The last episode was aired on September 27, 2015. And ever since then, everyone is waiting to see its following season. The debut season received a positive response from the critics as well as from its viewers.

Gangsta Season 2: Renewal Status!

Manglobe Studios produced the debut season of this anime series. However, that turned out to be the final show ever made by this studio. Back in 2015, Manglobe Studios filed for bankruptcy. According to the records, they get in an estimated debt of 350 million yen. Therefore they never had the opportunity to renew this series for Gangsta Season 2. The authors of the manga series and the other makers of the franchise also haven’t talked about the future of the anime. Eventually, everyone assumed that they canceled the show.

Is There Enough Source Material?

As we mentioned above, the plot of this anime series was adapted from the manga series of the same name. The debut season covered the first six volumes of the manga. And the authors have only published eight volumes so far. They released the last volume on May 9, 2018. It has been more than two years since they last published it. The remaining two volumes aren’t enough for any studio to make Gangsta Season 2. They’ll need at least three more volumes of this series.

Will The Anime Ever Return?

The production studio declared bankruptcy after releasing the first season. The authors have stopped publishing the manga just after releasing two more volumes. Plus, in the past five years, the popularity and demand for this anime have also decreased. So currently, nothing is in favor of Gangsta Season 2. If any other production studio came forward to revive this anime series, they’d need more source material to create its plot. And that’ll be very difficult for them to obtain. Therefore, it is better to believe that this franchise had a good time, and we will not see it again.

It is likely that the fans will never see the sequel of the anime series they desired. But instead of Gangsta Season 2, it is possible that they might see a spin-off series. The authors of this franchise also published a spin-off manga titled “Gangsta: Cursed.” It has enough volumes to create an entire season. So if any other studio ever shows their interest in this franchise, they might pick up the spin-off series.
