Before the premiere of the eleventh season, the network confirmed that it would be the last season, and the show would not return for Shameless Season 12.

While talking about the final season, showrunner John Wells mentioned, “Frank absolutely can’t have survived forever without any consequences to all of this bad behavior. Prticularly that behavior has been allowed in many ways by the fact that his family has stuck around.” Thus it is confirmed that the twelfth season is not coming.

What Happened In Shameless Season 11?

The eleventh season of Shameless tried to wrap up the ongoing storylines of the main characters. And they all go in different directions for their own journies. Kev and V decided to migrate to Louisville, Kentucky, in search of a better life, leaving Chicago. Meanwhile, Lip persuaded his brothers and sister that it was for good if they sold the Gallagher and moved to their own apartments from the money. The close-knit Gallagher family goes in separate directions, with each member pursuing their destiny.

Shameless Season eleven integrated the global Covid-19 pandemic into the story. Patriarch Frank Gallagher succumbs to covid in the final season. Frank was diagnosed with alcoholic dementia. He survived his suicide attempt by overdose. But Frank gets infected with Coronavirus after using a discarded mask. Eventually, covid claimed his life. Despite his numerous flaws, Frank Gallagher was the glue holding his family together. Since Franks was at the center of the story, the showrunners decided to end the show with his death. And sadly, the show will not return for Shameless Season 12.

What Does Shameless Ending Song Signify?

Shameless reached a full circle with the ending of its final season. The pilot of the show started with the scene in which the Gallaghers, Kev and V, and their neighbors threw a spontaneous gathering near a burning car. Frank Gallagher introduced us to his family members via a voiceover in the background.

As the show prepares to say goodbye to us, we see the supporters of The Alibi troop as they gather around a burning Tesla in the series finale. All of them start singing Spoon’s “The Way We Get By” in celebration. This is the same song that played at the end of the pilot episode. The song’s lyrics refer to doing drugs in cars’ backseats, engaging in petty crimes, partying, dancing, and knocking the boots. All these represent a course of survival for a generation lacking hope or direction.
