The fans loved the dark-comedy and humor of the first season. As a result, the show became one of the most successful shows of the previous year. 

   

Russian Doll is an American dark-comedy series. Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland, and Amy Poehler created this show. This series premiered on February 1, 2019, on Netflix and became a breakthrough hit. The debut season of the show successfully managed to get four Primetime Emmy Award nominations. After looking at the enormous response, Netflix renewed the show for the second season in June 2019.

According to the reports, the creators didn’t even write the scripts for the second season by the end of the previous year. The filming of the second season was scheduled to begin in May 2019. However, before the creators started it, Coronavirus outbreak shut down the global entertainment industry. The pandemic affected all the shows and halted the production for an uncertain amount of time. The cast and crew of Russian Doll Season 2 would try to start filming as soon as things get to normal.

In the debut season, the viewers saw Nadia dying on her birthday night. Later, she awakens and relives the night again and again like she is all alive. She met Alan, a man who is suffering in the same circumstance. He is also reliving his death day after dying by suicide. However, later they understand that both of them are lost in a video game real ity where their death night was a jumping-off point.

In a recent interview, Pohler discussed the future of the show. She said, “Instead of saying, ‘Can you make it more convenient so that more people like it?’ the people form Netflix said, ‘Actually, can you push it more into an original space, a riskier space?” This statement hints that the creator will dig deeper in search of truth in Russian Doll Season 2. The second season can completely turn the story of this show upside down.

In another interview, Lyonne suggested that the second season would connect to the debut, through a video game. She said, “There’s always a million yous walking around. It just depends on which one you’re going to put on today. It proposes the question of how many variants of the characters are there collectively? That’s absolutely something that was considered.”

Russian Doll Season 2: Cast Updates

The only confirmed cast member for the second season is one of the creators, and Emmy nominated actress of this show. Natasha Lyonne will reprise her role as “Nadia Vulvokov” for Russian Doll Season 2. Along with her, the fans can expect to see Rebecca Henderson as “Lizzy,” Greta Lee as “Maxine,” and Charlie Barnett as “Alan Zaveri.” There is a possibility that the viewers will see some new faces too in the second season. The official cast list for the second installment is yet to be disclosed by Netflix.

The fans are highly disappointed by the continuous silence of Netflix regarding the return of this show. Since the filming for the second season hasn’t started, it is more likely that the fans will not see the second season this year. The viewers can expect to stream Russian Doll Season 2 in the first half of 2021 on Netflix.
