Mindhunter Season 3: Renewed Or Canceled? Cinematographer Hoping To Return Soon

It’s been a year since the second season of Mindhunter wrapped up on Netflix. However, the streaming giant hasn’t greenlit Mindhunter Season 3 yet. It seems like the series cast and the director’s busy schedule is holding the streamer from placing Mindhunter Season 3 in its upcoming lineup. Meanwhile, the series cinematographer hinted about the future of the series. The series is famous for portraying the criminal psychology, and the crime happened between the 70s to 80s period. Its second season showcased the Atlanta murders in 1979-1981, where Wayne Williams was accused of the murder case. Mindhunter, created by Joe Penhall, is a crime psychological thriller drama series on Netflix. The series is based on Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas true-comic book titled Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit. It is centered on Psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv), FBI agents Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), and Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff). The trio manages the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. They work on understanding the thinking pattern of the serial killers by interviewing them to gain knowledge to solve the current cases.

Mindhunter Season 3: Has Netflix Renewed The Show?

It’s almost been a year since Mindhunter Season 2 released on Netflix. Since then, no information regarding Mindhunter Season 3 came out yet. The series creator and producers are being mummed. Earlier this year, the main cast of the series were also relieved from their contracts. The series director David Fincher also stated that he’s currently busy with other works. So till then, the cast can also grab the opportunity to work on other shows.

But, is this could mean that the third season isn’t happening? Well, Netflix didn’t want to lose hold of such an incredible series. And the giant streamer still waiting for David’s date to renew the series one of Netflix’s spokesperson said. Netflix is looking to renew Mindhunter for its third chapter. However, the streamer is waiting for the series team’s availability.

Further, Netflix’s spokesperson clarified director David’s action of releasing the cast from their contracts. He stated: “David Fincher may return in the future to direct Mindhunter Season 3. But, right now, he felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from looking for other work while David was exploring new work of his own.” This seems fair as well. However, keeping in view the viewership and popularity of the show, the third season will return for its fans, in some time.

Cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt Hoping To Return

In an interview, cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt stated that presently he also doesn’t know when the upcoming season would land on Netflix. But, he’s hoping to return in the third season as quickly as possible. Further, he said that he’s delighted working with David and the team. It was a fantastic experience, and he got so many things to learn from.

Erik said: “I’ve heard things are paused for a little bit. We’ll see. Who knows? But it would be an honor to return. I love working with David and adore the crew and the cast. And it’s been an incredible period of my life for certain. I’ve been contented to have the opportunity to work on it and contribute to it. It’s been particularly important and poignant in my career. But yeah, I don’t know what’s going on.”
