The Witcher Season 2: Productions Resumed, Plot Details & Future Beyond The Series

Over the years, Netflix has been trying to bring more and more content of all genres. In the fantasy genre, the streaming giant brought in The Witcher. After the first, mind-blowing season, fans are hungry for more. Everyone seems to be asking about The Witcher Season 2. It is based on the novel series by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The show was slowly drawn towards a powerful sorceress and a princess with a dangerous secret who cross paths in the finale episode in the first season. The season then set up the storyline for the next chapter. 

While we are all excited about the show, everyone was quite sad when productions had to stop because of the coronavirus pandemic. But now, things have started getting back on track. Recently Netflix announced the production details. Here are all the details you need to know about that and more-

The Witcher 2 Resumes Production

Netflix renewed The Witcher Season 2 even before the first season aired. Then, the team started production on the same earlier this year. Things were only taking pace when COVID-19 hit everyone and paused everything However, now, Netflix has announced that they would resume filming for Witcher Season 2 on August 17, 2020. The producers took on to Twitter to announce the news. 

While the show was scheduled to start productions on August 17, it looks like the creators have started working before the schedule. Director Stephen Surjik took on to Twitter to update his followers on how it is to work in a coronavirus-compliant set. They are following the health precautions to be safe. However, it is still unclear how many members from the staff have come back on sets. 

New Faces Joining The Show: Cast Details 

Netflix has recently revealed all the characters that will be a part of the second season. There will be some new faces who will join the cast for The Witcher Season 2. These new characters include Lambert and Coën. These characters will be played by Paul Bullion and Yaseen Atour, respectively. Along with them, Joel Adrian is rumored to join the cast as Henrik. With all this, there are rumors that The Witcher Season 2 will feature the Kaer Morgen, in the time where Witchers were trained. So, fans have been wondering if they would get to see Ciri getting trained? Maybe. 

Kim Bodnia from Killing Eve is coming in to play Witcher trainer- Vesemir. Joining him is Kristofer Hivju, who is coming in to play Nivellen. Other new cast members include Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Mecia Simson as Francesca, Aisha Favuenne Ross, and Lydia and Agnes Bjorn as Veerena. It is rumored that Carmel Laniado is joining in as a young character- Violet.

There are many faces from the first season who are coming back for The Witcher Season 2. Among them are Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan. They will play Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, respectively. More faces include Jaskier, and Triss. Eamon Farren is coming back as Cahir. These are many names among the few. 

What’s Coming Up Next?

In an interview with Digital Spy, Hissrich revealed that The Witcher Season 2 would indeed be more intense. He explained that the first season was very much like the building blocks. They are constructing a world and setting up characters. They are putting them on paths and cracking things over.

Now, in The Witcher Season 2, things will really start taking place and acting. Characters will meet each other, and sometimes things will get along, and other times it won’t. All the things set up, whether it be Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri or Yennefer and Ciri, are all from different kingdoms, and nobody gets to know that in the first season. However, the second season will bring them to the surface. So, the storytelling will be more in test and more focused. 

All Witcher’s fans can now take a sigh of relief. It looks like Witcher is on the platform for a long time. The creator has teased that they think that the show will at least be about seven seasons long. Not just this, Netflix has also announced an animated series of Witcher and also a prequel series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. The six-season prequel series will be set about 1200 years before the events of the original show, So, we can say Netflix is invested in the show for some time now. 

While Netflix has not yet officially announced a release date for Witcher season 2, we can all be hopeful that the show will release sometime in 2021. Hissrich confirmed in a Reddit AMA that they don’t have a release date for the second season. However, they will now start narrowing down the dates and make a target date soon.
