Special Season 2: Last year, Netflix brought in an American-comedy series that won everyone over. It was called Special. Ever since the first season of the flamboyant season was released, all viewers have been eagerly waiting for Special Season 2.
Starring Ryan O’Connell, the show is based on O’Connell’s memoir- I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves. O’Connell acts as the writer and executive producer of the show. What’s happening with Special Season 2? Here are all the details-
Is It Renewed?
Thankfully Yes. Netflix has renewed Special Season 2. The news came six months after the first season concluded, in December 2019. The streaming giant has ordered eight episodes. Not just the renewal, the show has even completed a lot of production. Back in May 2020, the creator of the show- Ryan O’Connell, revealed that they had filmed the first half of the upcoming second season before COVID derailed the whole project. After that, being quarantined, he is editing those four episodes. The first season of the show was entirely edited by O’Connell single-handedly.
Fast forward to today, after a break of many months, Ryan O’Connell and their team are back on the sets. The creator/actor took on Instagram to share the news. He posted a picture that he captioned with, “Back to Work With My Boys.” He added a hashtag- Special Season 2. So, we are sure that the remaining episodes of Special Season 2 will be ready soon. In the picture, it looks like they are dressed for a 1980s prom. The filmmaker Craig Johnson also posted a few pictures and captioned them with “Prom Date.”
What Will Be the Story for Special Season 2
The first season of the show ended with Ryan feeling like he has conquered cerebral palsy. He moved out of his mother’s house and decided to live on his own. Ryan had found a best friend in Kim, a love interest in Carey, and a job at Thought Catalog.
For Special Season 2, O’Connell has made his own writers’ room. He wants the second season to level things up. The creator says that he would not write the second season all by himself. He says that the character’s (Ryan) journey is about realizing, to be honest with who he is. Ryan still has a number of issues with the disability. Not everything is easy or fancy.
Along with revealing that, the creator has given more insights on what could come up next on the show. He says that Special Season 2 will bring more gay sex. It is something that he thinks is a revolutionary impression. O’Connell says that the sex depicted in the show isn’t skin-Emax after dark. It is real. It is what happens when a gay person first time experiences sexual intimacy. Many have very little or no education about it at all.
When Will The Next Season Release?
The creators have not yet revealed anything about the release date for the upcoming season. However, given that the show is already in production for the remaining episodes, we can expect to see Special Season 2 sometime in 2021.
