The last we saw of the Johnson family was in the seventh season of Blackish that premiered in October 2020. Now, ahead of Blackish Season 8, fans are getting ready to bid farewell to their favorite Johnson family for one last time. Because unfortunately, the eighth season of the series is set to conclude the story. 

Blackish is an American sitcom series that debuted on ABC in 2014. The show follows a Black American family who is trying to adjust to their new White upper-class neighborhood. The family consists of Dre Johnson, his loving wife Rainbow Johnson, and their two kids. The show progresses as the family navigates through their new life while dealing with various social, personal, and racial issues. When Dre realizes that his family is getting overly influenced by the western way of life, he tries to ensure they do not forget their roots.

Social activist and former first lady of the United States Of America Michelle Obama is set to make an appearance in the upcoming season of Blackish. The show creators announced the news of Michelle’s cameo in the series via social media on Thursday, October 28. As of now, no further details about her role have been revealed. Most likely, she will appear as a guest star in the eighth and final season of the show.

In addition, most of the prominent cast members will return for Blackish Season 8. This includes Tracee Ellis Ross, Laurence Fishburne, Yara Shahidi, Miles Brown, Marsai Martin, Marcus Scribner, Jennifer Lewis, and others.

What Does The Trailer Reveal?

ABC has shared the trailer for the upcoming season of the comedy series Blackish. The trailer opens with Dre saying “I want my family to be black not Blackish”. Further, we hear Dre say that the world they live in is a whole lot of white, a whole lot of black but mostly grey. The trailer then shows us some emotional family moments among the Johnsons. 

The trailer clearly hints at an emotional and heartwarming ending for the groundbreaking comedy-drama. Nonetheless, the season will have its fair share of hilarious moments to make the audience laugh their hearts out.   

Blackish Season 8: Release Date!

Fans’ wait for the eighth season of ABC’s Blackish is undoubtedly reaching its end. Blackish Season 8, which will be the last season of the hit comedy-drama, will premiere on January 4, 2022. Unlike the fall release schedule of the past season, the eighth season will air around the start of the new year.

The upcoming season will feature 21 episodes, including an election special. However, the showrunners have already confirmed that Blackish Season 8 will mark the conclusion of the sitcom. Creator Kenya Barris took to Instagram to state, “In this day and age it is rare to get to decide when your show should come to an end. And we are grateful along with ABC to be able to make this final season exactly what we’d hoped for. And to do it with the entire and AMAZINGLY STELLAR cast coming back to close this chapter out with us the right way!”
