For the past few years, Netflix has been expanding its portfolio with foreign-language content. The Russian thriller series Sparta is an example of it. But it has been about four years since the first season of the series debuted on the streaming giant. Even though the response towards season one has been ordinary, some of the fans are concerned will the series return with Sparta Season 2.
Sparta tells the story of a St. Petersburg schoolteacher who is also a homeroom instructor. And then commits suicide by leaping from the classroom window in front of his whole class. Igor Kryukov, an investigator, interviews the deceased homeroom teacher’s students and learns about the video game Sparta.
The barrier between the physical and virtual worlds is becoming more blurred as a result of this. Because we witness flashbacks of the investigator during the investigation, he is highly sensitive. We also learn that his wife committed herself using the same way not long before. He’s going through a depressive phase as a result of her untimely demise.
During his research, he learns that the director and his daughter both died at the same institution. From the beginning, he explores the possibility that the deaths are linked to Sparta, a popular video game among teenagers. The series maintains tension till the final chapter. It is based on a series of flashbacks that make it easy to follow and understand what’s going on until the last chapter, when everything is disclosed in a logical order.
Will There Be Sparta Season 2?
The first season of the Russian thriller series premiered on July 9, 2018, and the season came to an end on July 20, 2018, on Netflix. Now talking about the potential Sparta Season 2, here’s what we know. Netflix or the showrunners have not made any announcements yet about the show’s renewal for a second season.
We know that the first season of the series got lost in Netflix’s ocean of content. And it did not perform particularly well on the streaming. Netflix has a very limited amount of Russian content, and the first season has not done well. The chance of the show returning with Sparta Season 2 is very low. However, it is also noteworthy that we are not completely ruling out the possibility of the sho showing back as it has not been officially canceled yet by the network.

The cast of the thriller drama series features Alyssa Lozovskaya in the role of Irina Shorina, Alexander Petrov portraying Michail Barkovskiy, and Artyom Tkachenko appearing as Igor Andreevich Kryuko. And Philipp Mogilnitskiy appears as Vladimir Bagramov. The show also stars Yana Yenzhayeva playing the character of Anna Malkova and Marina Kaletskaya appearing as Natasha Belodedova. And Yuliya Marchenko playing Lyudmila Mikhaylovna Tsareva. Valeriya Shkirando and Aleksandr Bolshakov were also seen in the first season of the series.
If the show returns with Sparta Season 2, we can expect the majority of these cast members to return to their respective roles. On the flip side, as the story expands in the second season, we can also hope to see some fresh faces in the second season.
