Is Blood Oath Returning To The Screens? Here’s The Actual Plan Of Makers

Blood Oath

Experimenting with films is a risky factor for filmmakers. But Blood Oath proved to be successful in every aspect. Directed by Stephen Wallace, the drama film was also known as Prisoners of the Sun in some countries. It was released in 1990 but has lately returned to the trends once again. The film received prestigious nominations at AFI awards in different categories. Well, Blood Oath did a satisfying job in terms of commercial success. Interestingly, it was Stephen Wallace himself who considered that the film might have been more successful if the writers had been more accurate. Talking about the current scenario, the Blood Oath reboot still finds relevance among the audience. Meanwhile, many people are linking Blood Oath with the John Wick actor Keanu Reeves. In contrast to this, a few speculated that the movie has already been revived. What actually is the case with Blood Oath reboot?

Led by Bryan Brown and George Takei, Blood Oath was produced by Dennis Whitburn and Charles Waterstreet. The film delves into the real-life trial of Japanese soldiers. It followed the battle of Ambon that took place in 1942. Talking more specifically, it is a story of an Australian captain who tried to prosecute a Japanese baron. Nevertheless, unlike most films, it did not come out as a unique name. Fans are already perplexed about whether or not the OG is returning. Let us dig into the actual details!

What Is The Current Status Of Blood Oath’s Revival? Is It Returning?

Originally, the concept for Blood Oath was provided by Brian Williams. He was the son of an officer who was given the charge of Japanese soldiers’ prosecution at Ambon. It was a television mini-series, The Last Bastion, that compelled Brian to meet David Williamson to develop Blood Oath. Eventually, they wrote it together and, later, served as producers as well. The entire movie was filmed at the Village-Warner Film Studio.

Coming to the OG Blood Oath’s revival, there are certain factors that need to be observed carefully. Post the release of Prisoners of the Sun, makers planned for its follow-up. They even decided to go ahead with the project that was aimed to be worth $20 million. The team was almost ready to move further with it. Moreover, the follow-up movie was reported to revolve around the Cowra breakout. But unfortunately, the plan was dropped, and the project got shelved. The reason why the follow-up was dissolved is not known to the media. Perhaps some internal issues or disapprovals could have affected it negatively.

On the other hand, Backstage reported the making of a short film titled Blood Oath. The casting for the movie is underway, and thus, it has created much confusion. People are referring to the short movie casting as the development of the 1990 Blood Oath’s follow-up. But this is not the case. The short film of the same name is touted to be of the supernatural genre. Thus, it is a lot different from what the makers promised earlier.

Who Is In The Cast Of Blood Oath?

Bryan Brown led the cast of the 90s movie as Captain Cooper. George Takei played the character of Vice-Admiral Baron Takahashi, while John Bach as Major Roberts, joined the cast. Since there are no reports that suggest that the makers are developing the sequel of Blood Oath, it would be safe to assume that a follow-up is not coming anytime sooner. Even if the team takes up the task, it won’t drop in the upcoming few years. It will take sufficient time as the writer would have to develop a proper storyline. In addition to this, casting will also take some time. Stay tuned to TECH RADAR 247
