WWE has been one of the most popular names in the pro wrestling world. The company created several prestigious titles over the years, as many as 30. Even though there are about 20 big and small titles today in WWE and all its subsidiaries, only a few of them are in the mainstream. But there is only one title that can make enemies fight side by side with each other, The WWE Tag Team Championship.
What Is WWE Tag Team Championship?
One of the most relevant titles in WWE is the Tag team championship. The title was started as the World tag team championship in June 1971. However, when the wrestling company was rebranded as WWE in 2022, the title became WWE Tag Team Championship.
The championships, however, were made restricted to Monday Night Raw in October 2002, leaving the tag teams of SmackDown without a championship to compete for. Up to the formation of the ECW brand, the championships stayed that way for five years. The belts might now come on ECW thanks to a talent transaction that SmackDown and ECW announced. The championships were put in a unification match with Raw’s World Tag-Team Championship at WrestleMania XXV, and the victorious team was awarded both belts as the Unified WWE Tag-Team Championship.
Meanwhile, in the year 2016, the WWE brand split into two parts as per Cheif Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon’s new plan. As a result, The WWE tag team Championship w as also split in two. Separate tag team titles were introduced for both Raw and Smackdown.
Who Are The Current Tag Team Champions?
On May 20, 2022, The Usos, the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions, beat RK-Bro, the current Raw Tag Team Champions, to win this week’s SmackDown on Fox and become the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions. Jeff Jarrett, WWE Hall Of Famer, served as the match’s special guest referee.
The Usos retained the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships after hitting Dawkins with a double superkick and their 1-D finisher to conclude the contest. The Usos might not have prevailed if Roman Reigns, their Tribal chief relative, had not meddled in the contest. The referee was preoccupied when he entered through the crowd. Riddle was sent flying over the top rope, missing his intended target, and landing on the mat as a result of Uso saving Jey Uso.
WWE SmackDown Tag Teams!
There have been numerous glorious tag teams in the history of WWE/F over the years. Meanwhile, in the current era, there are also several competent tag teams in both brands of WWE. The most prominent of them is The Uso Brothers, who are often joined by their cousin Roman Reigns. They are the current WWE Raw as well as SmackDown Tag Team champions. Also, there is the New Day, which has been active for several years and needs no introduction. SmackDown roaster also consists of The Brawling Brutes made up of Sheamus, Ridge Holland & Butch.
Meanwhile, there is also Erik and Ivar, known as the Viking Raiders. And another popular team these days is Los Lotharios which consists of Angel & Humberto. In addition, other teams on the roster also include Gunther & Ludwig Kaiser, Jinder Mahal & Shanky, Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs, and Natalya & Shayna Baszler.
WWE Raw Tag Teams!
As Popular as SmackDown is, Raw has always been the main attraction for the World of Wrestling Entertainment. Therefore, it is not a surprise that the Raw roster is made up of more popular and prominent WWE superstars. This is also reflected in the tag team roster of the brand. These teams include Dirty Dawgs, which is comprised of Booby Roode and Swagger king Dolph Ziggler.
Meanwhile, there is also a team of veteran Rey Mysterio & his son Dominik Mysterio known as The Mysterios. Also, there is The Alpha Academy, made up of Chad Gable & Otis. Meanwhile, former WWE champion Finn Balor also has a team of his own, along with Damian Priest & Rhea Ripley, known as the Judgement Day. For those who don’t know, Randy Orton is also a part of a WWE tag team these days alongside Riddle. Their team is called RK-BRo. In addition, there is Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins’ team called The Street Profits.
