Despite the O’Brien family having their happy ending, the series showrunner and EP Phoef Sutton revealed what might have happened if the series had returned with Chesapeake Shores Season 7. Sutton told TV Insider that Evan wouldn’t have proposed to Abby if they had another year or season. Evan (Robert Buckley) was introduced in season 5 following Trace Riley’s (Jesse Metcalfe) departure.
Sutton also said that the proposal would be pushed to the middle or end of Chesapeake Shores Season 7. However, the team felt they needed to wrap things up and give everyone a satisfactory ending. Further, the showrunner revealed that if there had been another season, they would have delved deeper into Evan and Abby’s life as a married couple. The former might be seen doing some charitable endeavors. On the other hand, Mick (Treat Williams) would be working on his retirement plan. As for Kevin (Brendan Penny), he would have entered the medical school.

In 2019, the network confirmed it was planning for a spinoff film. However, nothing has been revealed to date. But recently, the series’ vice executive president, Michelle Vicary, has dropped the details about the Chesapeake Shores spinoff movie. Vicary stated that the upcoming film will shed light on the journey of O’Brien’s siblings. As per the official synopsis, they would travel to Rome to attend their childhood friend’s wedding.
However, when they arrived in Italy, the siblings would learn about their friend’s disappearance news. So, the women would embark on the journey to find the missing bride-to-be. The quest would help the sisters to look closer to their relationship. The sisters would learn how to balance friendship, family, and romance in the entire spinoff movie. While it’s been more than four years, the network hasn’t yet announced anything regarding the Chesapeake Shores spinoff movie. However, the executive producer Dan Paulson said a spinoff movie is still possible.
Dan told Canada’s SuperChannel they’d be happy to do something like the When Calls The Heart holiday special. So, if the fans want to explore this side of the story, they would return with one. However, the decision is solely based on the audience.
