Swamp Thing Season 2: Will The Show Return For Another Season? The CW Planning Spin-Off

Swamp Thing’s character has been around for several decades. The 1982 Swamp Thing movie, directed by Wes Craven, has achieved the status of a cult classic over the year. Thus fans were very excited Warner Bros released the first season of the Swamp Thing Tv series in 2019 on The CW. However, even after more than two years, fans are still waiting for Swamp Thing Season 2 to find out what’s next for Alec Holland, Aka Swamp thing. But when is the second season coming? Will There Be Swamp Thing Season 2?

The first season of Swamp Thing premiered on May 31, 2019. Swamp Thing is based on DC’s Comics’ eponymous character. The series is a part of The CW’s Arrowverse, in which several other DC shows are set. Everyone was expecting the series to be a multiseason run. Therefore, fans were surprised when the creators announced the cancelation of the show all of a sudden.

Warner Bros has not confirmed any particular reason for the cancelation yet. However, it did not stop fans from speculating. There are few reports claiming that the reason Swamp Thing was cut short was because the series went over budget. And that this mess happened mostly due to an accounting mistake blamed on the state of North Carolina, where the show has been filming. 

When the news of the cancelation came, actor Derek Mears in an interview, stated, “it’s a weird nebulous space that we’re all in now because we don’t know officially why that would happen, or why they cancelled it.” Mears expressed his frustration saying, “Even if you are going to cancel it, wouldn’t you wait until later on to see how it plays with fans before? So, something’s going on somewhere.”

Swamp Thing Season 2: What Could’ve Happened?

Even though, according to reports, the second season of The CW’s Swamp Thing is very unlikely, lets us try to determine what would happen in the second season if it ever happens. The exact plot details about season 2 are not easy to figure out. But we know before the cancelation, the network initially planned Swamp Thing for at least three seasons.

The second last episode of Swamp Thing, season 1, was titled “The Anatomy Lesson.” In the episode, we saw Cassidy eventually accepting his valiant destiny and converting into a fiery blue demon to protect Dr. Abby Arcane and Liz Tremayne from Avery Sunderland’s men.

If the series return for a second season, it will feature Swamp Thing probing the mysteries held within the wetlands outside Marais. Swamp Thing sensed certain darkness rising in it. On the other hand, the season may also explore further the growing unconventional romance between Abby Arcane and the Swamp Thing. The two have also been lovers in DC comics. There might even be a team-up between frienemies Swamp Thing and John Constantine. 

The CW Planned Swamp Thing Spinoffs!

As per the reports, Swamp Thing was planned to give birth to multiple spinoff series. These potential spinoffs included a series on Justice League Dark that would have featured many characters with magical abilities from the darker side of DC Comics. Swamp Thing introduced the audience to Phantom Stranger and the psychic, Madame Xanadu. The spinoff planned to launch Blue Devil in The Cw’s Arrowverse, starring Ian Zerling.

The CW’s Horror series is based on DC Comics, Swamp Thing, stars Andy Bean as Alec Holland. And Derek Mears plays the titular Swamp Thing. We’ve seen Andy before in Power as FBI agent Greg Knox in the drama series Power.

Meanwhile, Crystal Reed plays Swamp Thing’s love interest Abby Arcane. News reporter Liz Tremayne is played by Maria Sten, and Jeryl Prescott plays the role of psychic Madame Xanadu. In addition, Virginia Madsen essays Maria Sunderland, and Will Patton appears as Avery Sunderland. Further, Henderson Wade plays Matt Cable, and Kevin Durand appears as Jason Woodrue.

Moreover, Ian Ziering, Jennifer Beals, and Leonardo Nam appear as other recurring characters. When the series comes back for a second season, we expect most of the aforementioned prominent cast members to reprise their roles. At the same time, there is always a chance of seeing some fresh faces in the next season as per the demand of the story.
