HBO Max has finally opened up about the release date of Hacks Season 2. The Emmy-winning comedy series returns with new stories and hilarious punch lines to leave you in a daze. The last season debuted back in May 2021, and HBO Max didn’t take much time to return with the second run. Above all, the cliffhanger ending left fans wondering what will be the future of Deborah Vance and Ava. So let’s see what will happen with your favorite characters’ lives.

Created by Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello, and Paul W. Downs, the series follows a legendary Las Vegas stand-up comedian Deborah Vance. She has to show the importance of her performance. This is because the casino where she performs is looking to cut down her performance dates. Meanwhile, a young comedy writer Ava seeks to find work after being fired from her job due to an insensitive tweet. Later, the two team up to bring new changes in Deborah’s life while respecting their space.

Is Hacks Season 2 Renewed Yet?

As mentioned above, the first season debuted back in May 2021, and soon after a month, HBO Max renewed Hacks for the second season. In June 2021, Jean Smart, who plays Deborah Vance, said they were thrilled to learn that the network ordered a fresh batch of episodes. She added she told Hannah that now there’s no more “Miss Nice Guy. In fact it is now Bette and Joan now guess whos’ Bette?”

Further, the series co-creators and showrunners Lucia, Jen, and Paul said that they received so many positive responses, so they owe this renewal to every single person who watched the show. Speaking of ratings, the series gained 100% positive responses on Rotten Tomatoes while it gained 81 out of 100 on Metacritic. Hacks Season 2: Who Will Be In The Cast?

Hacks Season 2 will pick up from where it left off as per the source. That means Deborah and Ava will work on a new problem. So undoubtedly, Jean Smart will return as Deborah Vance with Hannah Einbinder as Ava Daniels. Apart from them, Jane Adams as Nina will return with Carl Clemons-Hopkins as Marcus and Christopher McDonald as Marty Ghislain. Paul W. Downs as Jimmy LuSaque, Kaitlin Olson as Deborah “DJ” Vance Jr, and Poppy Liu as Kiki will also return. Additionally, Mark Indelicato as Damien, Rose Abdoo as Josefina, and Megan Stalter as Kayla will also return.

Other returning characters include Angela E. Gibbs as Robin, Johnny Sibilly as Wilson, and Luenell. Joe Mande, Lorenza Izzo as Ruby, and Ally Maki will also make their appearance in the second run. Back in March 2022, HBO Max revealed that some new star cast would also join the show. These include Martha Kelly, Laurie Metcalf, and Ming-Na Wen. Margaret Cho will make her guest appearance for the second run. However, their role has been kept under wraps. 

What Will Happen In Hacks Season 2?

Deborah realizes that her long-time Vegas residency has expired in the closing moment, and Ava learns that her father has died. So now, they have to work together and follow a new routine to amend everything. Apart from this, in the first season finale, Ava drunkenly sent a slandering email to her boss that was later received by the production company, who’s planning to create a show centered on Deborah. Recently, the series showrunner Paul W. Downs told Entertainment Weekly that the second season would start with Deborah wanting to get another residency.

But it won’t be simple for her. In order to make things happen, she needs to stick to her new routine and get things in shape. She has to work on her new routine to make her stay in Las Vegas possible. Now everybody is joining hands to figure out how to make it possible in a short time. It means she will leave her castle in Vegas behind to live in a confided tour bus. Downs added that Deborah is now a big fish in a bigger pond and will move to a roadside farm where there will be little traffic to film for QVC.

Hacks Season 2: Release Date Is Out?

Yesterday, HBO Max released the first trailer of the second season. That hints at the official release date of the season. The sophomore season will air on Thursday, May 12, 2022. Before the fourth season could air, Netflix announced that 13 Reasons Why Season 4 would mark the end of this teen drama saga. The streamer later revealed in a statement that it was a creative decision to end this saga with the fourth run featuring the prominent cast’s graduation from High School. It hints at a natural conclusion.

While the first season gained a massive following and response, there was a drop in ratings till the fourth season. Further, many people took on Twitter to demand the show’s cancelation. This is because the show’s dark nature has influenced people for suicide. As per the source after watching the first season, many kids aged 11-17 killed themselves. But despite this, Netflix decided to continue the show, and surprisingly it has run for four seasons so far.

Boss Reveals The Reason Behind Its Cancelation

In May 2020, the series showrunner Brian Yorkey revealed that he decided the future of the show while filming the second season. The graduation felt like a logical time to wrap up the show for him. Brian also stated that he might have more chances to create more seasons of this series. But he feels like the high school drama to end up with four seasons. So he believes giving these characters a satisfying ending and scattering them to explore new in their life is enough for him to depict.

Harsh Critique Tried To Stopped The Show

Despite the show being loved by many fans, it gained many criticisms after the second season. Hannah’s death scene in the first season finale was so dreadful that many people demanded to cut the scene from the show. They later edited the scene. But it never stopped the series showrunner from continuing with the show. Well, the debate didn’t stop here.

A sexual assault scene in the second season and a redemption plot of Hannah’s rapist, Bryce Walker, in the third season, created more scandal. Further, the show didn’t end here. It portrayed addiction, school shootings, ICE deportations, and multiple homicides. Things got nasty when one character sodomized another using a mop handle. Hence many fans demanded to edit those scenes. This is the main reason behind the drop in the show’s ratings. Yet the devoted fans loved the show and stuck to its fourth season. But the second season of Law & Order: Organized Crime was renewed before the first season could wrap up airing on June 3, 2021. The network hasn’t revealed the reason behind this delay. But it seems like the series is focusing on the viewership rating.

Apart from this, the series has received a drop in rating. As per Nielsen aggregates, the second season lost 45% overnight figures, which is quite shocking.
