The anime series received critical acclaim and a fanbase of millions from all around the globe.

Hence, soon after the first season’s debut, its studio announced the renewal of a sequel. However, unlike what fans had expected, it came in the form of an anime film. The sequel film called Made Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul, debuted in theatres in January 2020 and continued the story of the first season. Before that, Kinema Citrus had already released two compilation films (of Season 1) on the big screen in January 2019.

Made In Abyss Season 2: Finally Renewed!

After a long wait, Kinema Citrus has finally renewed the second season of the anime. The end credits of the Dawn Of The Deep Soul movie featured a ‘To be continued’ message. The next day, on January 18, 2020, the anime’s official website confirmed the news. They released an announcement trailer revealing that the latest sequel in the series is now confirmed for production.

Well, a small section of the MIA’s fanbase argues that this new sequel could be a movie too. However, as per speculations, the manga’s upcoming story arc is too vast to be consumed in a film. Hence, in order to cover reach a suitable stopping point, the next sequel should likely be a series instead of a movie.

When Does S2 Productions Begin?

Is There Enough Source Material For Made In Abyss Season 2?

Kinema Citrus has finally confirmed the renewal of the second season. However, the studio is yet to begin its productions. One of the main reasons behind the delay is due to the lack of source material. Until recently, the creators of the anime did not have enough manga chapters to create a full installment. Fortunately, now that Volume 9 has been released, the studio will only need one more manga volume.

The first season of the TV anime covered the plot of 26 manga chapters (halfway through Volume 4). Whereas the Dawn Of The Deep Soul movie featured the Bondrewd story arc that ends will Chapter 38. With the recently released Volume 9, the manga now contains a total of 55 chapters. This leaves us with only 17 chapters for the second season.

Kinema Citrus will need one more manga volume to produce Made In Abyss Season 2. As of now, Volume 10 is expected to come out sometime around the middle of 2021. Hence, the productions of the new installment might begin after the tenth volume is launched.

What Will Be The Plot Of Made In Abyss Season 2?

The upcoming installment is expected to continue the story of the Dawn Of The Deep Soul movie. Hence, it will probably feature the Capital Of The Unreturned in the sixth layer. Our leading characters, Riko, Reg, and Nanachi, enter the sixth layer via the altar following Meinya. Not long after they make their last dive, they find themselves stuck in the Narehate Village of Ilblu, populated by the Hollows. The four of them discover mysteries, terrors, and bewildering truths as soon as they reach the deepest depths of the Abyss.

As Riko awakens the sixth layer, she loses her companions on the way. While searching for them, the lead character falls deep into the Village of the Hollows, where she’s forced to make difficult decisions. Later on, she discovers the harrowing origin story of the Village of the Hollows.

Made In Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul Movie Delayed In The US!

The latest Made In Abyss movie made it to the Japanese theatres back in January 2020. The English dubbed and subbed versions of the same were expected to premiere in the US between April 13 and 15, 2020. However, the screenings have been canceled due to the tragic COVID-19 outbreak. As of today, theatrical screenings of films are still prohibited. Hence, the anime movie may not debut in the US anytime soon.

Sentai Filmworks has licensed the series and films for their English dubbed and subbed version for release in North America, UK, and Ireland. As of now, they haven’t announced the new US release date of Made In Abyss: Dawn Of The Deep Soul movie. As per the current situation, it’s hard to say when theatrical screenings will resume. However, we hope that things work out towards the end of this year. We will update this section as soon as the rescheduled date arrives.

Will There Be More Movies In The Franchise?

Well, facts say that all three movies of the Made In Abyss franchise were profitable for its producers. In fact, the films managed to gain positive critics and audience reviews. Hence, Kinema Citrus might not give up producing MIA movies until and unless they don’t have enough source material.

As of now, any future anime movie has not been confirmed by the studio. Although, it’s likely that fans might get a few sequel or spin-off films in the coming years. In fact, like the first season, Kinema Citrus might produce another compilation film of Made In Abyss Season 2. However, a compilation movie will only release after the second season concludes.

Made In Abyss Season 2: Release Date

Kinema Citrus has only confirmed the sequel, as of now. The second season’s productions might only begin after the launch of Volume 10 of the Made In Abyss manga. Mangaka Akihito Tsukushi releases only one volume of his manga every year. Hence, the tenth volume might release sometime around the middle of next year. What Will The Second Season Be About?

The Cells At Work! manga series has a total of five volumes that consist of 25 chapters. Out of these, around 14 chapters were covered in the 13-episode first season of the anime adaptation. Mostly, each episode of the anime featured the story of one of these chapters. The upcoming season of the animated show is expected to cover the remaining source material.

David Production revealed that the first episode of Cells At Work Season 2 would be about the strongest enemy of the human cells. Hence, it will center around the “Intestines” and diseases related to them as they create a fuss in the body. Well, this theme of the story corresponds to the plot of Chapter 20 (Volume 5) of the manga. This chapter talks about H. Pylori, a type of bacteria that grows in the digestive tract and tends to attack the stomach lining. The infection of this bacteria leads to ulcers in the stomach and small intestine. Moreover, they can also lead to several diseases in some people.

While the first episode is expected to talk about the Intestines, other episodes might cover the plot of the remaining manga chapters. Some exciting and informative themes include Acquired Immunity, Acne, Dengue Fever, Cancer Cell, and more. Well, the studio hasn’t confirmed the number of episodes for the sequel. Based on the manga chapters available, Cells At Work Season 2 might only have ten episodes.

Code Black Spin-Off Series & Platelets Go To The Theatre Movie!

Alongside Cells At Work!! (two exclamation signs representing Season 2) fans will get to watch two brand-new spin-offs of the franchise. One of these will be an anime series adaptation of the Hataraku Saibou Code Black spin-off manga. The studio confirmed this anime spin-off in April 2020 and released the first poster as well. A firm release date has not been confirmed, although it is will hit the screens sometime in January 2021.

The Cells At Work Code Black anime series will be a standalone story. It will feature new characters, including a male RBC and a female WBC in the lead. Hence, a brand-new set of cast members will voice these characters. In fact, the animation of the spin-off has been handed over to Liden Films, instead of David Production.

Being a very sensitive topic, the episode/chapter must be handled delicately as it might hurt the feelings of a large section of the world population.

As of now, David Production has not shown interest in creating a Coronavirus episode of Cells At Work. Hence, it’s highly unlikely to be featured in Cells At Work Season 2. Being an adaptation, the anime will cover the topic only if its included in its source material. Well, chances are high that mangaka Akane Shimizu might involve the COVID-19 disease in one of the upcoming manga volumes. As of now, we can only hope to get a Coronavirus episode/chapter in the future.

After the first, mind-blowing season, fans are hungry for more. Everyone seems to be asking about The Witcher Season 2. It is based on the novel series by author Andrzej Sapkowski. The show was slowly drawn towards a powerful sorceress and a princess with a dangerous secret who cross paths in the finale episode in the first season. The Witcher 2 Resumes Production

Netflix renewed The Witcher Season 2 even before the first season aired. Then, the team started production on the same earlier this year. Things were only taking pace when COVID-19 hit everyone and paused everything However, now, Netflix has announced that they would resume filming for Witcher Season 2 on August 17, 2020. The producers took on to Twitter to announce the news.

While the show was scheduled to start productions on August 17, it looks like the creators have started working before the schedule. Director Stephen Surjik took on to Twitter to update his followers on how it is to work in a coronavirus-compliant set. They are following the health precautions to be safe. However, it is still unclear how many members from the staff have come back on sets.

New Faces Joining The Show: Cast Details 

Netflix has recently revealed all the characters that will be a part of the second season. There will be some new faces who will join the cast for The Witcher Season 2. These new characters include Lambert and Coën. These characters will be played by Paul Bullion and Yaseen Atour, respectively. Along with them, Joel Adrian is rumored to join the cast as Henrik. With all this, there are rumors that The Witcher Season 2 will feature the Kaer Morgen, in the time where Witchers were trained. So, fans have been wondering if they would get to see Ciri getting trained? Maybe. 

Kim Bodnia from Killing Eve is coming in to play Witcher trainer- Vesemir. Joining him is Kristofer Hivju, who is coming in to play Nivellen. Other new cast members include Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Mecia Simson as Francesca, Aisha Favuenne Ross, and Lydia and Agnes Bjorn as Veerena. It is rumored that Carmel Laniado is joining in as a young character- Violet.

There are many faces from the first season who are coming back for The Witcher Season 2. Among them are Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan. They will play Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, respectively. More faces include Jaskier, and Triss. Eamon Farren is coming back as Cahir. These are many names among the few. 

What’s Coming Up Next?

In an interview with Digital Spy, Hissrich revealed that The Witcher Season 2 would indeed be more intense. He explained that the first season was very much like the building blocks. They are constructing a world and setting up characters. They are putting them on paths and cracking things over.

Now, in The Witcher Season 2, things will really start taking place and acting. Characters will meet each other, and sometimes things will get along, and other times it won’t. All the things set up, whether it be Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri or Yennefer and Ciri, are all from different kingdoms, and nobody gets to know that in the first season. However, the second season will bring them to the surface. So, the storytelling will be more in test and more focused. 

All Witcher’s fans can now take a sigh of relief. It looks like Witcher is on the platform for a long time. The creator has teased that they think that the show will at least be about seven seasons long. Not just this, Netflix has also announced an animated series of Witcher and also a prequel series called The Witcher: Blood Origin. The six-season prequel series will be set about 1200 years before the events of the original show, So, we can say Netflix is invested in the show for some time now. 

While Netflix has not yet officially announced a release date for Witcher season 2, we can all be hopeful that the show will release sometime in 2021. Hissrich confirmed in a Reddit AMA that they don’t have a release date for the second season. However, they will now start narrowing down the dates and make a target date soon.
